What Does a Storytelling Photography Session Look Like?

When you think about a photo session, you might picture everyone lined up, smiling stiffly at the camera - the “say cheese” kind of image we’ve all seen a million times. But here’s the thing: your story is so much more than a smile. That’s why I approach photography a little differently. Instead of focusing on posing, I focus on connection, emotion, and movement. Because the way you hold each other, the way your child leans into you, the way your partner looks at you when you laugh - those are the moments worth capturing.

What does “storytelling photography” actually mean?

It means that your session is about more than how you look. It’s about how it feels. A storytelling session captures the belly laughs and the quiet hugs, the wild, sandy hair and muddy feet, the way your toddler tucks into your neck when they’re shy, the little glance between you and your partner that says everything. These are the things you’ll want to remember. And they’re the things your children will feel when they look back at the photos one day.

So what does a session look like in practice?

We meet at a location that feels relaxed - a beach, a field, or somewhere special to you. There’s no pressure to “‘perform’. No forced poses. No expectations that your child will stand still or smile on cue. Instead, I’ll gently guide you through movement and play. And in those moments - in the stillness and the chaos - your story unfolds naturally.

It’s not just about the photos. It’s about the experience.

When you look back at your gallery, I want you to feel something. I want you to remember how it felt to have your little one wrapped around your leg, or to kiss your partner while the sun dipped low over the ocean. A storytelling session gives you space to slow down and reconnect. It’s a pause button in the middle of life. And the photos? They’ll be real. Raw. Beautiful. You, as you are.

Your story matters. Let’s tell it beautifully.

If you’ve ever looked at someone else’s gallery and thought, ‘I wish I had photos like that…’? You can. They don’t come from perfect posing. They come from letting go - and letting your story lead.
